As you know the iPhone 4 is using the smaller ‘micro sim’ card and at least in Sweden it’s currently hard to get hold of these as iPhone (and iPad) are some of the first units that only can be used with the micro sim. But there’s a solution to that. By using a micro sim cutter you can convert your sim to a micro sim in just a few seconds. You can get the micro sim cutter for $25.

Pivot Power is one of the nicest power strips I have seen so far. It’s clever design makes it possible to adjust the form and bend it into circular, semi-circular, and zig zag shapes. The Strip was designed by Quirky’s community members in just one week! More information and images inside.

Pivot Power, Adjustable Power Strip, Hits Quirky’s Online Store
Collaboratively developed in one week by Quirky’s community

New York, NY, June 28, 2010 — Today marks the official release of Pivot Power — a community-developed electrical power strip that adjusts and flexes to maximize outlets as well as conserve space.

Pivot Power is designed to solve all the frustrations of traditional power strips. Its six adjustable outlet pods allow you to make room for all of your plugs at once so that large power bricks don’t hog all the space. Plus, Pivot Power’s flexible form easily bends into circular, semi-circular, and zig zag shapes, enabling it to fit into tight spaces and wrap around furniture and corners. Finally reclaim your outlets with Quirky’s Pivot Power.

Pivot Power is the 44th product designed and developed by the Quirky community since Quirky’s launch on June 2, 2009. Quirky gives everyone the chance to get product ideas out of their heads and onto shelves. Each week, Quirky’s community collaborates to select and produce one new product idea. This week ends the development phase of Pivot Power, and it is now available for pre-sale in Quirky’s online store for $23 (MSRP: $25).

You might remember other successful Quirky products including the Cloak, a sleek, sturdy iPad case; the DigiDude, a portable camera tripod and keychain; the Scratch-n-Scroll, a mousepad with a writing surface; and the PowerCurl , a cord wrap for Apple’s MagSafe power adapter.

Quirky engages participants to collaborate in every aspect of product creation — from ideation, design, naming, manufacturing, marketing, right on through to sales. Anyone can participate on Quirky.com either by submitting their own product idea for $99, or by voting, rating, and influencing other people’s product ideas. Cooler still, 30¢ of every dollar generated from the sale of a Quirky product goes back to these influencers.

Every week, users post ideas on Quirky to be rated by the Quirky community. The community surveys the submissions during a seven-day evaluation period and selects one product to move forward into product development. Quirky’s community then begins weighing in on everything from naming to logo selection to packaging through to prototype.

The final product becomes available for pre-sale in the Quirky online store (quirky.com/products). Once the product hits its pre-sale threshold, credit cards are charged, and the product goes into production and delivery. At this point, 30¢ of every dollar made from the sale of these products goes back to the community. “Community” in this case covers both the ideator as well as all people who voted, commented, and rated the project idea along the way.

Yeah, I know, lots of iPhone 4 postings the last few days – but it’s the most interesting gadget released on the market for quite some time. Here’s a nice 10 page review from iLounge and it’s a nice run-through of all the bells and whistles. It ain’t all good though since they gathered quite a big ‘cons’ list:

Cons: Smudge, scratch, and shatter issues await users who avoid cases. Antenna reception is more noticeably reduced under some conditions than on prior iPhones, particularly impeding cellular performance in certain indoor environments. Despite improved screen, user interface is only modestly improved from iPhone 3GS. Lowest capacity version feels cramped given video recording capabilities and release of high-resolution apps. High-resolution video output to monitors is confusingly limited; video calling is presently incompatible with even Apple’s own iChat application. Data consumption due to higher-resolution screen is ill-suited to lowest-end limited data service plans. Sole U.S. cellular data provider AT&T continues to provide inconsistent and sometimes poor service.

Noise canceling is an interesting technology and the last few years it has become really efficient. The latest pair of headphones from Panasonic (the RP-HC700) claims that they block 92% of the outside noise – quite a bold statement if it’s true. I guess I have to try a pair later on and see how they actually work since I’m flying quite often. Full press release inside.

PANASONIC INTRODUCES THE ESSENTIAL TRAVEL CARRY-ON

RP-HC700 Noise Cancelling Headphones Reduce Outside Noise By 92% for Ultra Travel Comfort

SECAUCUS, NJ (June 22, 2010) – As the summer travel season kicks into gear, Panasonic introduces the perfect travel companion, RP-HC700 noise canceling headphones, which reduce outside noise by 92% (22dB at 200Hz*). They are designed to filter out background noise by generating a signal of the opposite phase to effectively cancel it. Additionally, the headphones reduce low frequency noises such as the drone of a plane’s engine or a loud air conditioning unit. The noise-canceling feature can also be switched off to allow the user to converse or to reduce background noise by virtue of the headphone’s comfortable insulated housing. When the noise canceling effect is off, the headphones can still be used as normal headphones.

“Whether used to block out sound while on an aircraft or to create a tranquil environment so you can enjoy your music, these new headphones are up to the challenge,” said Tom Hantson, Panasonic’s national product manager. “With the RP-HC700 noise canceling headphones, even a crowded flight feels like a private flight.”

These comfortable headphones feature large, 40mm drivers with Neodymium rare-earth magnets for pure, natural sound reproduction and a well-rounded response that keeps the bass pumping without overwhelming the music. The ultra thin diaphragm is made from natural fiber bio-cellulose which has the sound velocity advantages of both aluminum and titanium, along with the warm, delicate sound that a paper diaphragm provides. Trebles are sparking clear, and bass notes are deep and rich.

Boasting ergo-design earpads made of soft, high-grade synthetic leather, the RP-HC700 headphones provide long listening comfort. Thanks to their swivel mechanism they conveniently fold for compact storage and come with a protective carrying case, making them ideal for travel. They operate on one AAA Alkaline battery and have a frequency response of 8Hz – 22kHz.

The RP-HC700 noise canceling headphones are currently available, with a suggested retail price of $199.99.

Today Apple unveiled a new Apple Mac mini. Full details inside.

Press release from Apple

CUPERTINO, California—June 15, 2010—Apple today unveiled a completely redesigned Mac mini, featuring up to twice the graphics performance, a new HDMI port, and a new SD card slot, all in an amazingly compact aluminum enclosure. Mac mini is the world’s most energy efficient desktop and starting at SEK 7 995 inc VAT, is the most affordable way to enjoy Mac OS X, iLife or Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server.

“The sleek, aluminum Mac mini packs great features, versatility and value into an elegant, amazingly compact design,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With twice the graphics performance, HDMI support and industry-leading energy efficiency, customers are going to love the new Mac mini.”

Created with the unibody construction process pioneered by Apple, the new Mac mini features a compact aluminium enclosure just 7.7-inches square and 1.4-inches thin. A new integrated power supply eliminates the need for an external power adapter, reducing overall system volume by 20 percent and keeping cable clutter to a minimum. A removable panel underneath provides quick access for memory expansion. Mac mini is incredibly versatile, effortlessly connecting to existing peripherals such as mice, keyboards and digital displays, while the new HDMI output connects Mac mini to an HDTV and the new SD card slot enables easy transfer of photos and videos from a digital camera.

Inside its sleek, compact enclosure, the new Mac mini includes the fastest integrated graphics processor on the market today. With 48 processing cores, the NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor delivers up to twice the graphics performance of its predecessor, making Mac mini ideal for graphics intensive applications or visually rich games. Mac mini comes standard with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 320GB hard and 2GB of RAM for SEK 7 995 inc VAT.

With twice the graphics performance, the new Mac mini is still the world’s most energy efficient desktop*. The new Mac mini reduces power consumption by an incredible 25 percent to less than 10W at idle, less than half the power required by competing systems. Mac mini meets Energy Star 5.0 requirements and achieves EPEAT Gold status**. The new aluminium enclosure is highly recyclable and Mac mini uses PVC-free internal components and cables, contains no brominated flame retardants and features material-efficient system and packaging designs.

Mac mini comes with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the world’s most advanced operating system, and iLife, Apple’s innovative suite of applications for managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play music. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. iLife features iPhoto, to easily organize and manage photos; iMovie with powerful easy-to-use new features such as Precision Editor, video stabilization and advanced drag and drop; and GarageBand which introduces a whole new way to help you learn to play piano and guitar.

Mac mini with Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server fulfills all the server needs of a workgroup or small business including email, calendar, file serving, Time Machine backup, Wiki Server, Podcast Producer and more. Mac mini with Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server uses less than 11W of power at idle, a fraction of the power consumed in comparison to typical entry-level tower servers***. Mac mini with Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server is faster than before with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, two 500GB hard drives now running at 7200 rpm, 4GB of RAM and supports unlimited clients for SEK 11 395 inc VAT.
