Yesterday I had to do a quick backup of one of my DVDs and it turned out that it was a dual layer 8GB DVD so I had to shrink it to 4GB to be able to burn it. I solved the problem with the following steps:
1.) Installed ‘Fairmount’. A tool that basically will let you copy and DVD content to your hard drive, it also includes decryption of protected DVDs. You can get Fairmount here.
2.) Installed the OSX version of ‘DVD2one’. You can get a trial version that is fully functional for 30 days: DVD2one download site.
And then the only thing you have to then is inserting the DVD you want to backup into your Mac, copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your drive, and fire up DVD2one. The whole process including copying and burning took around 1 hour on my 2GHz MacBook Pro and worked just perfect!
