Today Taito launched a HD version of their famous Space Invaders for the iPad. The original game was designed by Tomohiro Nishikado and was a huge hit in the arcades back in the 80s. The app is $4.99 and here’s our verdict.
Even though the intro screen looks very promising it’s a very poor game experience overall. The menus are ugly and the whole feel of the app is very far from what you should expect from a professional gaming company like Taito. The controls are awkward and even though you can change between clicking the on-screen joystick, touch & drag or tilt controls it’s not very fun to play. There’s a 2 player version available as well, but that one isn’t very fun either. One of the worst games for ipad so far, and definitely not worth $4.99 – I’ve already uninstalled it = definitely not recommended. Crap.
Go get Osmos or Angry Birds instead. Or Tunnel Shoot if you desperately need a shoot’em up. Meteor Blitz HD is a good shooter as well.
