Since we probably never will see the Duke Nukem Forever hit the market (it has been in development between 1997 – 2009) as 3D Realms pulled the plug in May, you can at least amuse yourself with the iPhone port of the classic Duke Nukem 3D game. Mini review inside.

The port of the game is very detailed and everything looks exactly like it did back in the days. You can choose whether you want to control the crosshair or just tap and shoot.

The controls are quite tricky and actually really hard to use. You press the transparent areas on the bottom corners of the screen to move forward and back, strafe left and right etc.

And the small icons in the top right corner and to the right are used to kick, hit, options and pause the game.

You will very often see this screen – when you are killed by an enemy.

The graphics are smooth and look very good, an almost exact match of the original graphics and sound.

There are a lot of different settings to adjust the controls but I didn’t manage to get the game playable.

Summary: It’s fun to show off Duke Nukem 3D since it’s quite cool if you are old enough to have played the original game but the game is a pain to play. You really can’t enjoy playing since it probably will take days to get fluent with the controls. But at the intro price of $2.99 it’s still a nice download but I really can’t recommend the game to anyone – there are much better games in the App store to play around with.
