The iPad can be a great tool for playing around with your photos and even though the device don’t feature a camera it’s easy to transfer your photos to the iPad. Here’s a list of 12 awesome photo apps for the iPad. And if you’re missing one just add a comment.

Photo fx Ultra – $5.99

If you need to do some color corrections or just want to change the look of some of your photos, Photo fx Ultra is the one for you. You can choose between 68 different filters and 65 different color looks. You can add multiple filters on the whole image or selectively by painting a mask. Supports resolutions up to 3072 pixels. A truly great app.

FlickStackr – $1.99

FlickStackr is a useful app if you use Flickr to store and publish your images. It’s easy to uplad, tag and manage your Flickr sets. Definitely the best Flickr app at the moment
iTunes link

TiltShift Generator for iPad – $2.99

TiltShift Generator for iPad is a tool for applying cool depth-of-field effects to your photos. You could go for a classic TiltShift-look where it looks like you took a shot of miniatures or you can just use the app to adjust the saturation, brightness and contrast. The interface is really great and it can make a photo look better in seconds. One of my definit favorites in this genre.

Cropolator for ipad – $0.99

Cropolator for iPad is a really great app for rotating and cropping your images. The user interface is lovely and it supports resolutions up to 3072 pixels. I use this one a lot for quick crop & rotate tasks.
iTunes link

Diptic – $1.99

Diptic is an app that will let you combine two or three different photos and make a single collage photo. Straight forward with good results. The only problem with this app is that the export function only will give you a photo with a 1024×1024 resolution = don’t expect full resolution exports.
iTunes link

Photo Transfer App – $2.99

If you have an iPad, iPhone or your computer on the same WiFi network you can use the ’Photo Transfer App’ to easily move the images between the devices. I prefer using DropBox below, but that’s because when I’m in the need to move a photo from my iPhone to my iPad they are usually not connected to a WiFi.
iTunes link

Cinq for iPad – $4.99

Cinq is a clever software the installs a server on your computer (or several computers) holding your iPhoto library. You can then use the Cinq application to connect to your library and browse all of your photos. It’s a really clever solution – and it works perfectly!
iTunes link

Photogene for iPad – $3.99

One of the most popular photo editing apps for the iPad is PhotoGene. It’s a very straight forward application with a nice GUI. You can do simple corrections, cropping and add different filters and frames. For $3.99 this is a nice application that will give you great value for your money.
iTunes link

Scott Kelby’s Photo Recipes Live – $9.99

Scott Kelby is the author behind the extremely popular photo books ’Scott Kelby’s Digital Photography Volumes 1, 2 and 3’. Here’s a great app that will learn you how to snap the photos you want. Simple, plain English. Great information but if you already own the books you can skip this one.
iTunes link

Colorsplash – $1.99

Colorsplash will let you do convert your photos to black and white and add the color on specific areas by using your finger as a brush. It’s fun to play around with but it’s more fun than reaylly useful if you would ask me. Still, one of the coolest iPad photo apps at the moment.
iTunes link

SketchMee HD – $4.99

SketchMee HD is an application that will turn your photo into a piece of art. It’s easy to use but you have to fiddle around with the settings a bit to get a good end result. It supports resolutions up to 4096 by 3072 so you can even use it for doing large printouts with decent quality.
iTunes link

DropBox – free

DropBox is a great tool for moving photos from your iPhone to your iPad or any computer with Dropbox installed. Just install the application and you can easily add photos, or get photos from the DropBox folder. You get up to 2GB of storage in the free version and can get 100GB if you go premium.

The photographer Lee Morris got tired of people letting him know that taking good photos was all about having the right camera. He arranged a fashion photo shoot and took all of the photos with his cell phone – an iphone 3Gs. Amazing results! Next time someone tells you that the iPhone camera sucks show them this article.

I posted a few of the images and asked people to critique them (never exposing that they were shot on my cell phone). I couldn’t help but laugh when a few of our readers claimed that these were “the best images I had ever taken.” Nobody ever claimed that they were too grainy, too soft, or lacked detail.

At least something innovative is released on the, currently quite boring, camera market. This little beast from Fujifilm features two lenses and is capable of capturing stereoscopic images. Neat! Too bad you have to wait until next year to get it though, but at that time Fujifilm promises that the camera will capture high definition video as well.

I just got a mail from Mark over at Photographyblog letting us know that they have published a nice review of the quite unusual camera GR Digital II from Richoh. It looks like something made in Russia in the 1970s but got an awesome review:

Back in the real world, we’re left with a pocket camera that is a veritable pleasure to use and which delivers excellent photos at slower ISO speeds. If you want the ultimate image quality, then you should clearly choose the Sigma DP1, despite its short-comings. If you want a more well-rounded and versatile 28mm camera, then the Ricoh is still a fantastic choice for the serious photographer.

So if you are looking for a new small pocket camera this one might be worth checking out.
