Data-driven Signals on Lumin

We are often troubled by incessant notifications that disturb us on social media platforms. They take our attention and focus away, and the amount of time we lose due to these pesky chimers is countless. But what if we had the power to easily define what friends/communities we would like to keep a tab on? What if we could tell social media to notify us only if we had to know? Interestingly enough, decision-makers and data enthusiasts struggle with this problem too.
In the world of data analytics, users are overwhelmed daily with an overload of data and insights. As such, Decision Intelligence platforms must enable users to configure their focused Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for tracking and allow them to be notified about such insights only when necessary. We at Lumin by Fosfor came up with the perfect solution. Our feature, Signals, offers this level of customizability. Illustrated below, understand how data-driven signals can strategically assist your decision-making.

What are Signals?

Signals allow users to set up custom thresholds on their chosen KPIs and receive alerts in case of a breach. As users explore descriptive questions through Lumin, the Ask bar can choose to create a Signal by defining threshold limits (upper and/or lower limit) for a measure/KPI and relevant dimension relevant filters. From here, the user will receive in-app notifications whenever the limit goes above or below the preset limits. This will ensure strategic and timely decisions are made for their business.

Signals in action

Let’s say as a retail brand manager I am investigating the corporate segment’s Average Order Value (AOV). In that case, as seen in Figure 1, I would ask Lumin, “What is the trend for AOV by corporate segment?”

Figure 1: Insights on trends of AOV by corporate segment

As in Figure 2, Lumin promptly points out that the consumer AOV is at the bottom and in the range between 7 and 9. Now, using the create signal button, we can define a specific threshold range for the retail manager to be notified whenever the threshold goes below 9.

Figure 2: Setting up a signal with thresholds

At this stage, I have set up a signal that provides me with a month-on-month notification if the range of AOV goes below the threshold of 9. You can now view the signals generated by navigating to the home page of Lumin, next to the notifications and nudges buttons on the top left as seen in Figure 3

Figure 3: Viewing signals generated on the Lumin home page.

Once there, clicking on the Signals tab, I can see the signal breach that has occurred, as shown below in Figure 4.

Figure 4: Investigating the signal breach for corporate segment AOV

Lumin allows decision-makers to flexibility edit, delete, and activate/deactivate signals. It also has heuristic capabilities for users to subscribe/unsubscribe to signals created by other users if needed.
Ultimately, with focused insights like these, users can easily and promptly notify their decision-makers. This data-analytics capability quickly becomes a tremendous time-saving element in decision-making and comes with multifold benefits. Let’s discuss those.

What value Signals hold for our customers
Signals enable invaluable benefits for customers. They allow customers to:

  • Stay Informed ahead of time: Decision-making based on your data is empowered when the decision made is at the appropriate time. Utilizing data analytics to maintain A constant tab on critical thresholds of your budgets, sales, and market share empowers decision-makers to take timely calls on interventions and plan push/pull-through strategies.
  • Edge out their competitors: As much as knowing how your performance is driven is critical, keeping a tab on your competitor’s performance is equally vital. Your business decisions can be further enhanced if you are notified promptly of competitor and market dynamics changes.
  • Keep a closer eye on your ROI: Campaign managers need to have a micro and macro view of the effects of their campaigns. Close monitoring is pertinent for maximizing your ROI at various levels of the investment value chain. The ability to track change in your early adopters and change influencers is paramount.

These benefits are just the tip of the iceberg. The possibilities of how best this feature can be used in decision intelligence are limitless.
At Lumin, our constant endeavor is to make decision-making more agile, effortless, and faster. Signals are one step closer to this, helping our decision-makers stay focused and drive toward needed insights.
